About halfway through the movie, the camera follows Phil into a secluded glen where he caresses the scarf of his late mentor, Bronco Henry. Is this latest gesture a softening that leaves Phil exposed, or a plot twisting further into menace? It has received , including a leading 12 nominations at the , among them , for Cumberbatch, for both Plemons and Smit-McPhee, and for Dunst. The movie adaptation was simply brilliant, thanks to a superb screenplay written by Jane Campion, who also directed the movie and who won an Oscar for best direction she was nominated for best screenplay for this movie.
